Yesterday Microsoft has confirmed that, Windows 7 will be on sale starting from 22^nd October, 2009. Steve Guggenheimer, Microsoft Corporate Vice President for OEMs, confirmed that Windows 7 general availability will began on October 22.

Acer had already announced that, Windows 7 would be available on Acer machines from October 23 and users who buy PCs with Windows Vista starting from June 28th will get a free Windows 7 upgrade option.

Microsoft also said without giving specific details that those who purchase PCs running Vista between now and the Release Date will receive either a free or discounted copy of Windows 7.

CNet reports that Microsoft is considering a technology guarantee program that will allow existing Vista customers to receive some sort of discount when upgrading to Windows 7.
