Upgrade Windows 7 Beta or RC to Windows 7 RTM

The bad news for Windows 7 Beta or RC users is that they are unable to upgrade from Beta or RC builds to current Windows 7 RTM build: 7600.16385 that’s recently has been signed off to be final RTM. If you are trying to upgrade to Windows 7 RTM, you will be facing this type of error message:

“You cannot upgrade this prerelease version of Windows 7. Go online to see how to install Windows 7 and keep your files and settings.”

Don’t worry for this error message, because there’s something you can do to bypass this problem. Refer the following steps to upgrade from Windows 7 Beta or RC to Windows 7 RTM build: 7600.16385:

Extract Windows 7 RTM ISO Image file to any folder or USB Disk using WinRAR.
Go to source folder, open “cversion.ini” file using text editor such as notepad.
Changes the “MinClient” build number to a value lower than the down-level build. For example, change 7233 to 7000.
Next, you need to save the altered or updated file in the same location and then run the setup.exe to start Windows 7 RC Upgrade process.
An installation screen will appear to make you choose which Windows 7 version you want to upgrade: RC or Beta.

Windows 7 RTM will be Available to MSDN and TechNet Subscribers on 6th August

As per the information available, Windows 7 RTM will be available to MSDN and TechNet subscribers on 6^th August. Windows 7 team blog has reported some exclusive information about Windows 7 RTM, which explains when you will get Windows 7 RTM.

For Partners & OEMs:

Independent software vendor (ISV) and independent hardware vendor (IHV) partners will be the first one to have access to Windows 7 RTM from Microsoft Connect or MSDN on August 6^th.

Microsoft Action Pack Subscribers will be able to download Windows 7 RTM in English starting August 23^rd. Remaining languages will be available by October 1^st.

For IT Professionals:

IT Professionals with TechNet Subscriptions will be able to download Windows 7 RTM in English on August 6th and remaining languages by October 1^st.

For Developers:

Developers with MSDN Subscriptions will be able to download Windows 7 RTM in English on August 6^th and remaining languages by October 1^st.

For Business Customers:

Volume License (VL) customer with an existing Software Assurance (SA) license will be able to download Windows 7 RTM in English on August 7^th via Volume License Service Center (VLSC).

Microsoft will be offering a family pack of Windows 7 Home Premium in selected markets, which will allow installation on up to 3 PCs.

Windows 7 Latest Build, build 7268, compiled

As per the information available, the latest build of Windows 7 is compiled and is in the RTM branch. This build is 7268 and the string of this build is 6.1.7268.0.win7_rtm.090701-1900, which indicates that this build was compiled on 1^st July, 2009 at 7:00 pm.

Windows 7 RTM is scheduled on 13th July, 2009

According to the neowin, Windows 7 RTM (Release to Manufacturing) will be scheduled on 13^th July, 2009. This means the code will be finalized and Microsoft will give the green light to it’s manufacturers. This is great news all around for Windows 7 users.

Now my waiting will be passed in next 10 days. No more beta testing, or release candidates. No more five leaked builds a week. No more bi-hourly shutdowns and expiration dates; it will be the real deal – as long as there are not any major problems or setbacks. But, Microsoft should have had plenty of time to work out all the kinks and bugs. So, I expect them to keep to the schedule.

RTM and GA (General Availability) are two totally different phases. RTM is typically the final build before Windows 7 hits general availability later this year. RTM is provided to manufacturers so they can work out any bugs with hardware devices. General availability is scheduled to launch on October 22. RTM does mean that those with subscriptions to TechNet, MSDN, etc will be getting the RTM build on July 13^th.

Windows 7 RTM Build, build 7264, Leaked

The last leaked build from Windows 7 RTM was build 7260. After almost 2 weeks here are news of yet another expected windows 7 build leakage.

This time it is Windows 7 Build 7260 x64 and x86. As per news Windows 7 Build 7264 has been uploaded to some private FTP server and soon it will be leaked out on popular torrent trackers. This is first time in the history of Windows 7 leak that build has been uploaded to FTP site.

The build string of this build is 7264.0.090622-1900, means it was compiled on 22^nd June, at 7:00 pm.

No screenshots or change log is available yet.

Windows 7 Latest Build, build 7265, compiled

The latest build compiled in the RTM branch of Windows 7 is the Windows 7 build 7265. The build string of this build is 6.1.7265.0.win7_rtm.090624-1905, which indicates that the build was compiled at 7:05 pm, on 24^th June.

According to neowin Windows 7 would be RTMed on 26^th June, but there are still chances of getting the build RTMed if the UAC bug has been fixed.

Windows 7 RTM delayed to 29th June

The expected date for Windows 7 RTM release was 19^th June. But yesterday winfuture has reported that the Windows 7 RTM date has been shifted to 29^th June. It is due to due to some errors the RTM build was not compiled, up to now there has been no information about the errors.

It has been already known that Windows 7 build 7260, 7261, 7262 and 7263 has been compiled and all of them belongs to the RTM category.

In addition to these build, there has been rumors about Windows 7 build 7264, but there is no confirmed news about the same. The build string of this build is 6.1.7264.0.win7_rtm.090620-1900.

Windows 7 Build 7260 (Windows 7 RTM) Leaked

The Wzor reported that Windows 7 enters the RTM version with build 7260. Windows 7 build 7260 leaked on torrent sites and file sharing sites. At the moment, only the x86 build has been leaked to the public. This build is available as a 32-bit Windows 7 Ultimate VHD image. The string of this build is 6.1.7260.0.win7_rtm.090612-2110, which indicates that the build was compiled on 12^th June. Microsoft is currently aiming for the RTM build which might raise the build number to 7300.
