Firefox 3.5 has lots of new features and one such feature is Private Browsing. If your computer is used by your friends or family members and you would prefer for them not to be able to see what websites you have visited or what files you have downloaded. In such cases, Private Browsing mode is very useful for us. Private Browsing mode allows you to browse the Internet without retaining any of data about which sites and pages you have visited.

How to Enable Private Browsing mode?

1. Click on the Tools menu and select Start Private Browsing or use [Shift + Control + P] keyboard shortcut.
2. The first time you turn on Private Browsing, Firefox will alert you that it will save your current windows and tabs for after you finish using Private Browsing. Click on Start Private Browsing to continue.
3. You will then enter Private Browsing mode, and the Private Browsing information screen will appear.
4. If you want to stop Private Browsing mode, Click on the Tools menu and select Stop Private Browsing or use [Shift + Control + P] keyboard shortcut.

In a Private Browsing mode, Firefox would not keep any browser history, search history, download history, web form history, cookies, or temporary internet files.  However, files you downloaded and bookmarks you make will be kept.

How to delete specific URL from Internet Explorer address bar?

In Internet Explorer 8, it is very easy to delete specific URL from address bar. All you need to do is just move over the website entry and click on red cross (X) button.

In older versions of Internet Explorer, it is little-bit difficult to delete specific URL from address bar. It needs editing the registry and you need to be very careful with it. Follow the below steps:

1. Close any open Internet Explorer window.

2. Go to Start > Run and Type regedit, press enter to launch registry editor.

3. Navigate to the following key :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs

4. Delete the desired URL.

2. Add the Launchpad PPA GPG key:

sudo apt-key adv –keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com –recv-keys 247510BE

3. Now run below command on your terminal

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install firefox-3.5

B. Using Wget

1. Either you can download Firefox 3.5 via any other browser if you have on your Ubuntu or else run following command on terminal to download Firefox 3.5.

wget -O – ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/3.5/linux-i686/en-US/firefox-3.5.tar.bz2 | tar xj –C ~

2. Double-click the Firefox file inside the Firefox folder in your home directory, or run this command:

~/firefox/firefox

That’s it, a latest version of Firefox 3.5 is installed and ready for use on your Linux Machine.

Download Firefox 3.5

1. Go to C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc folder.
2. Find the file named as hosts and open it in notepad [For Linux users, this file is located in the /etc/ directory. you could run a sudo nano /etc/hosts/ to edit the file].
3. Under the line that says 127.0.0.1 localhost, add a new entry 127.0.0.2    <website to be blocked> and save the file.
4. For example, if you want to block “www.santabanta.com” website, then add an entry like this: 127.0.0.2 www.santabanta.com
5. For every website that you want to be blocked, just add “1” to the last number in the internal ip (127.0.0.2) followed by the web address to be blocked, as shown below:
   127.0.0.3         website0
   127.0.0.4         website1
   127.0.0.5         website2
   ..  127.0.0.33       website33  …. and so on.

I tested this procedure to block www.google.com website from my windows 7 operating system and it works. After adding entry for blocking Google website, my Firefox and IE browser shows a page like below:

All you need to do is to download and install this add-on for your Firefox browser. It will ask for restarting Firefox. After restarting it will asks for Video path for saving YouTube videos.

For downloading YouTube Videos, just go to YouTube website, find your video and click on download link of any format (FLV, 3GP, MP4, or HD) you want. Refer below screenshot for finding the download link.

Talon is a Firefox Add-on developed by Aviary which allows you to screen capture inside Firefox and also edit the captured image online using Falcon Image Markup. Using this add-on, users can quickly capture the selected region or entire web page, save captured images to desktop or even edit the captured image directly in Aviary’s applications.

Once installed, it provides an option in the right click menu as well as on the tool bar. You can take a screen shot of the page or a region and if you are logged into the online account of Aviary, you can even edit the captured image. You can also save the captured images to desktop.

In addition, this add-on also provides another option to directly edit background images or any images on webpage with Falcon online image editor.

Mozilla has launched a new feature that allows users to create "collections" of their favorite Firefox extensions.

Add-on Collections can be organized by theme – i.e. extensions for students or web designers – or as bespoke selections of your favorite browser plug-ins.

Users can simply visit the Collections Directory, browse through the various collections and install the various extensions separately.

Alternatively, you can download the Add-on Collector extension for Firefox, and subscribe to various collections.

The Collector extension will notify you when new add-ons are added to the collection, but they won’t be automatically installed on your browser.

Each collection also has its own RSS feed, so you can keep up-to-date with new additions that way.

Mozilla has created several sample collections to get the ball rolling, but it hopes they will soon be overtaken by user-generated compendiums. Collections that get the most subscribers will be ranked highest on the Collections website.
