By default, Windows Media Player can only play a limited type of audio and video files (WMA, MP3, WMV, ASF, MPEG etc.). For playing other types of media files (MP4, 3GP, MOV, FLV etc.) in Windows Media Player, you need to either download a separate media player or find suitable codec packages for Windows Media Player.

This is also a Codec based solution. But by using these codecs, you will be able to play all major media files right from Windows Media Player for Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7. You will no longer be restricted to using a specific player.

These Codec Packages can play DVD’s, movies and video clips of almost any file types using Windows Media Player.
