According to the latest blog post on the WordPress development blog, the release date for WordPress 2.8 has almost been confirmed; the target date for releasing WordPress 2.8 is 10th June.
Release Candidate 1 (RC1) of WordPress 2.8 is now available for downloads. According to the Official WordPress blog this may be the final RC released before WordPress 2.8 is released.
